You are right. There probably never has been a time when "suspended
movement" was prevalent. IMO, I just haven't seen a really great
one in a long time. I remember seeing Sel. Ch. Cinnabar's Edward
Teach when he won Best in Futurity in Seattle in the early 80's. His
ligaments were like powerful springs that thrust him forward on a
long, low arc. He literally floated without lifting even when
walking. I think the dynamics of this kind of movement are a rare
and fortuitous combination of flexible ligamentation and powerful
musculature laid on a correctly angulated bone structure. Maybe a
mysterious element as well. A lot of folks think their dogs move
with suspension like I describe but they really don't. When I talk
about gait that I see now, I see a lot of nice looking animals that
have good front reach, solid mid-pieces that transmit well, good
under reach and follow through in the rear and are well balanced.
Their ligaments are tight and their motion is piston like and hard
driving and they go like hell. I can't really fault them. They
can't be called mediocre. The movers of today are quite ubiquitous
and seem to pass their movement to their progeny in good numbers.
They would make excellent herding dogs. Maybe this is better than
hoping for that legend that comes along once in a lifetime.

THE MOVEMENT YOU DESCRIBE..
WE CHANGED THE BREED'S STRUCTURE AND LOST THE LONG-STRIDED , CAT-LIKE
GAIT... . JMO BARB WILLIAMS
