Subject: Working Together Equals A World Championship Trophy
Zoa:

You are so right, it is all about working together. As Herr Wolfgang Henke
said during his opening remarks of the WUSV Meeting in Oberhausen, Germany,
"It is all about the dog, when man's problems, disputes and ego becomes
involved the dog suffers". That is a statement you will hear me repeating
many,
many times because it is so true.

Here is an email I just received from David Landau which is more news about
Team USA, this is just so wonderful. Working together is always the best
approach to everything.

Here is an email from David that expands on the wonderful victory in
Denmark, please pass this around to other lists and anyone you know. What a
wonderful, wonderful accomplishment.

Lew

From David:

Dear Lew and Ken,

Today was filled with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. Team
America started the day with two high individual scores, from Wallace (in 3rd

place) and Charlie (in 7th place), but it's the top three scores that
determine
the team championship. Also, there was still a dog from Italy that had a
chance to knock Wallace off the podium.

I had to leave the stadium at 9:15am to go to a brief WUSV Board of
Director's meeting and did not return until 11:45am. The first news that I
had upon
my return was that the Italian dog only scored in the upper 80's so Wallace's

placing was secure. I also learned that T. Floyd from USCA had a lovely
routine and scored 93 in obedience to give us a team score of 830 pts., i.e.
the
sum of the three highest individual scores. A quick check of the Results
Board showed that Denmark also had 830 pts.! In such a case, the high
protection score breaks the tie; however, the two teams had identical
protection
scores. When this happens, the high obedience breaks the tie; and Team
America
had higher obedience by three points!!! to become the 2006 World Champion. (I

kept re-checking the Results Board to look for corrections, and it wasn't
until the final, printed results came off the computer in the Trial Office
that
I told team members to celebrate.) The final individual results had Wallace
(GSDCA) 3rd, Charlie Meszaros (GSDCA) 8th, and T. Floyd (USCA) 20th.
Charlie had high in trial obedience with 97 points and Wallace had high in
trial
protection with 98 pts.

GSDCA Team members had prepared well. Our Alternate, Jim Lempner, had his
dog in top shape, and it was a very calming feeling before the trial to know
that if anything happened to Wallace or Charlie we would have a world class
replacement. Phil Hoelcher was an excellent Team Captain. He made good
advance preparations for training, had an excellent young German Helper
("Speedy")
and an excellent young Helper from Florida, Greg Naranjo, help prepare the
dogs in protection, and kept everybody focused. Heidi and I helped translate,

run errands, etc. and there were a number of other Americans present who lent

support in various ways. Our guys got a great deal of support from the
crowd. Kudos also have to go to T. Floyd without who Team America could never

have been on the top of the podium. Other USCA team members, Martin Vollrath
and Gus Elfar, are to be congratulated for their qualification for the World
Championship, and USCA Dean Calderon is to be thanked for his role.

So, congratulations to Team American, #1 in the World.

regards,
David
