hello to everyone on the list...first of all i wanted
to thank everyone who answerd my newbie question on
the grinding nails and cost on heartguard ,all of
ya'll are awsum...well here is another newbie
question...i'm thinking about buying this kennel, it
is 10 ft long and 6ft tall 5 feet wide its made with
hog panel 8gauge wire like square type fencing..has
anyone use hog panel before?also what do you guys
recommend for the flooring other than
concrete?(dirt,wood shaving,etc)and for my other
kennel ,i'm replacing the cyclone fence it has
13gauge now but my male shepherd keeps tearing it
up.what gauge to u guys recommend i replace it with?

   Hi John:    If you are building only a small 'Holding Pen' for a German 
Shepherd to be in for a short amount of time..That might be big enough..But if 
he or she is to live in it  or be confined in it for any length of time...they 
need  a run that is at least  40 feet long and 8 to 10 feet wide.. With heavy 
duty chain link.. We use  10 gauge Chain Link..inside the Kennel Building...  
Then we have large Outdoor exercise pens that are   60 feet long and 30 feet 
wide.. They also get a trot around the Loop here (on the paved road) where we 
live on the Mountain, of about 2 miles a day, beside a Golf  Cart..

  One reason Shepherds or any other large Breeds  chew  up a run, is because 
they are too confined, and bored and need to EXERCISE and they want OUT  !!! 
They are an Athletic Breed and you cannot confine them in small spaces or 
areas... They absolutely MUST have Room to RUN!!!   They also need some toys 
for 
diversion to chew on like the large Black  KING Kongs , ( which I buy by the 
gross because mine chew them up so fast>) or  Large Nyla-Bones, etc...They  
must exercise their bodies and their minds, or they can be very destructive., 
and 
it also affects their health , mental and physical in detrimental ways, to be 
confined in small spaces.. ..  . JMO barb Williams
