No mediocre dogs win for many reasons, too many to list. The back is so important for all functions. Try doing anything for any length of time with a bad back. You may have a "flashy" sidegait but to me that makes the dog mediocre. Without the total package you just have a dog that can run fast around a ring. Big deal, not what I want from a GSD. If it is such an obvious fault, it should be eliminated. If that soft or bad back was it's only fault maybe the dog should win that day, but I don't think I would show a dog with a soft or bad back,or put up one. I didn't see one dog with a bad back that had a correct gait for long, they lifted, they moved from the elbow, some had eggbeater movement in the rear, they bobbed up and down or swayed like they were in a boat. I just think you bring in more than "just" a bad back. I like a balanced smooth moving dog that can look good at any pace, call them mediocre if you want, but if I am breeding, I want the total package, not just a sidgegait. To me it is a fault of gait, which is a serious fault and should not be overlooked. Any of the dogs I saw with a bad back, I did not see any other outstanding attributes that over rode that back. I saw way to many dogs there with a good back and the other qualities I would want to go with it. If I am going to breed an outstanding dog with a fault, which all dogs have their faults,it is not going to be his back or his front assembly.=0 ACan this be interpeted any other way? Transmission: The typical smooth, flowing gait is maintained with great strength and firmness of back. The whole effort of the hindquarter is transmitted to the forequarter through the loin, back and withers. At full trot, the back must remain firm and level without sway, roll, whip or roach Pam   -----Original Message----- From: Cinosam GSD <cinosamgsd@xxxxxxxxx> To: showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; culzeans1@xxxxxxx Sent: Thu, 20 Nov 2008 11:37 am Subject: Re: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: showgsd-l Digest V2 #3280 You breed a dog with a fault because of it's other outstanding attributes.   .  Mediocore dogs win because the judge eliminates all dogs with obvious faults then picks the winner from what is left. Sidegait gain and again is only a part of a great dog. I think I am sticking with the tandard. Soft backs are great for cats, but it looks horrible on a GSD. Why reed to it in the first place? The dogs I saw with "soft" backs did ot have the correct gait. Why put something into your line that you will have o correct later? That is like unlearning a bad hab it, why start it in the first lace? agree with Joan and Cynthia am Some of the best moving dogs in lots of breeds have soft toplines and Ann is ght, all big cats, when they are moving have soft backs - allows for exibility... I know what the GSD standard says, but if you have a dog with a rrect gait and a soft back, I would NEVER fault him as toplines are easy to rrect... s for one serious fault on an otherwise great dog - I think probably EVERYONE this breed can think of a great influencial dog with a fault. It just depends the fault... nd you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater!! All it leads to is a eed full of mediocrity and D*G knows there is enough mediocrity in dogs as it ... ess M.Paisley Dals (www.paisleydals.com)&; The Shepherd Girls (Simmie, CGC, I, TC, HIC & Pepper, HIC)Member of: DCA, GSDCA & GTCDC _______________________________________________________________ t more done, have more fun, and stay more connected with Windows Mobile速. tp://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/119642556/direct/01/ ========3D=============================================================== ISIT OUR WEBSITE - http://showgsd.org ATIONAL BLOG - http://gsdnational.blogspot.com/ =========================================================================== ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2008.
