Whoa, wait a minute, I was a first timer as well and while there will always be
disagreements on who won what, and I did not agree with all of the choices, but
I would not have missed it and as a first timer there, I am very glad I got to
see it. My mother always said "only a boring person gets bored". Maybe it was
boring for some at certain times, but over all it was not. I don't think it is
the judges job to make it "fun" it is the judges job to pick the best
representation of our breed STANDARD. Period. Movement is a part, topline is
part, workability is a part, temperament is a part, shoulder, ears, feet, rear
drive, all parts. Parts that make a whole dog.
It was a dog show and a darn good one, too bad you weren't there to judge for
yourself.? I wonder what you will be disappointed about next year? I hope next
year it is just as exciting and fun as this years was. The dogs love it when
you are happy, they could care less about what some judge thinks of them. It is
all about our breeding stock and great care needs to be taken when so many will
take to heart who won what and breed accordingly. I did not agree with all of
her choices, but by goodness, I thought she was taking her responsiblity as a
judge very serious. I am curious, when you talk about movement, are you just
talking about side gait? Because sidegait is nothing without a clean coming and
going, in my?opinion. So I tend to over look dogs who have this huge sweeping
sidegait and going away from me looks like an egg beater. Hate it. Call me
novice what ever, I do not see anywhere in the standard where one excludes the
other. I don't like dogs who lift in the front, don
't care what the side gait looks like, I don't want to trade one for the
other.
I came away from this national feeling uplifted in regards to our breed. Yes
there are always problems, but I saw many great dogs, dogs that I have only saw
in the Review and to be quite honest, they look better in person!? I guess when
you are judging Intersex you can judge it as you see fit.
Please tell someone else how boring it was, cause obviously I was at another
show!! And I am totally sure I was at a DOG show!

WOW!!!

Reading the reviews of this years National - I guess I am glad I was spending
my
dollars on campaigning a dog instead of sitting at ringside being bored.

Going to the National and watching the breed competition should be EXCITING!!!
The judges should make it fun for the exhibitors, the dogs, the crowds and
everyone else... When I read the article in the Review by the Intersex judge, I
thought to myself "How boring is THIS going to be?" along with "Why would you
advertise that!"

Paulette - Christine is right - I am sure it was exciting as it was your first
National (and I might have still enjoyed it just to see the dogs and meet the
people), but when it comes to the Specials class - I want the "SHOW" portion of
dog show to be important... Not only are we judging breeding stock, but we are
"showing" off our dogs... And the dogs LOVE it when it becomes a dog SHOW....

I have Ohio in my plans for next year (fortunately, Argus will be out less so
hopefully there will be more $$$$$ to go around), so I expect it to be a dog
SHOW next year and I am looking forward to it!
