I use food grade diatomaceous earth, both internally for the dogs and on the lawn for the ants that we are inundated with every year. It works great for both-I haven't had a worm in my guys in the three years I've been using it, and there is whip in the dirt in my yard. It works really good for the ants, too-as long as you don't get it wet. it's completely non-toxic (food-grade), and best of all, CHEAP.
