There is no perfect owner, but we all do what we think is right, and I hope the best that we can for our dogs. You would hope so anyway. To make such blanket statements regarding all of us is indicative of the very novice. It's like saying that ALL long coats have good temperaments or that ALL Texans own horses! Some people on this list believe that being a responsible owner means: cleaning dog runs, feeding and breeding they're dogs. The best owner according to this list, should make the dog a champion, breed the dog to death, and find a good home after they are done with the dog. Ok, a "great" home, I have adopted two of these champions no questions asked; the owners couldn't wait to get rid of these beautiful dogs. I have been at some of the homes of these people on the list, and after an hour visiting, I just couldn't wait to get out. The filth and conditions they kept these dogs was unbearable. The beauty of this list is that we can pass judgment on others very easy. I would love to just walk up to these people homes unannounced and see how they really take care of the dogs. > > > ------------------------------> > Again...interesting. That's an interesting assessment but its not what was happening here. Mom never ran a big kennel operation, it was a mom and pop 1 litter a year thing and if she didn't like something about you, forget it. Being rich or poor was not a deciding factor. There were plenty of other people that left our home without a dog. Each person was interviewed and then essentially judged. Another thing, it was and should never be about the money. Rick ------------------------------ Msg: #9 in digest From: "Cyndi Flautt" <caretti1@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: FW: s/n conference Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 22:33:09 -0500 SPAN is a collaboration of animal welfare groups in the state whose goal is to decrease unwanted/euthanized animals by providing spay & neuter services.....Brandon Kennel Club (among many other organizations) has provided a grant to help with spay/neuter in our county. MS Span is not for mandatory spay and neuter, but some of the attendees of the conference were...only one speaker actually mentioned it, and believe it or not, he is a vet at MS. State Vet School, who has received grants from HSUS, AND the AKC.....There was a gal from HSUS there who spoke about marketing s/n in Miss....and it was quite obvious that they are spending a good deal of money in the state.(everywhere else, too). A guy from the ASPCA spoke, and said one thing I found very interesting.......He said that there are groups/organizations who work to change people's opinions...and that they are working toward changing opinions about spay/neuter...breeding, etc......He gave the example of how opinions about smoking have changed over the last 15-20 years........That got me thinking about the recent posts regarding the decrease in AKC registrations/litters.....And that these big organizations are working very hard to change public opinion about purebred dogs and their breeders.....ie: the politically correct thing to do is to get a dog from a shelter...........So on that note...besides having fun with our dogs, breeding, showing, competing, etc...we all should be promoting our breed, and responsib le dog ownership to those in our local communities. Otherwise public opinion will eventually change, and we will be perceived as the bad guys, rather than responsible people who love our dogs.
