The successful breeder and exhibitor researches judges. Judging is subjective; otherwise we would have the same dogs winning all the time. I usually give an unknown judge 2 chances, if my dog has been dumped the first time. After the second chance, I figure he/she just doesn't like my dog's type/movement/color/handler. Oh well--I will enter under someone else. But, to answer your question, research and wise judging choices sometimes lead to wins.
