One more thing to consider. As the specialty shows couple with the all breeds
it will be very tempting to go with the judges that can judge more than one
breed. The all breed clubs will pick up the judges tab in this case. That will
be a big selling factor to a club who is struggling to host it's shows and
doesn't have the people willing to step up and take down the clubs show
equipment. They may be forfeiting some profit but they will be protected
against loss. It is a smart business choice.

I do understand what you are saying Stormy but in today's world making it more
difficult to attend a Specialty show won't do a thing for entries. The Oregon
club did that very thing this year, went with the Stump Town circuit, and had
a total entry of 15 dogs. The judges were good. The entries were low. The Shows
were a week after the Eugene shows which held for majors so that is probably
why the entries were so low. There are just so many dollars a person is willing
to spend on dog shows in the same month.

Just another thought. Many entries at AB shows went down when the
style of GSDs split *more* between "specialty GSDs" and "All Breed
GSDs." The "Specialty" types weren't winning under AB judges but
could and did win under Specialty Ring Specialist Judges.
I agree with Ken that talking specialty to specialty, the other breeds
entries are coming back. It seems like almost every time I wander
through an AB show, there is a huge sponsored ring (Goldens, labs, all
the breeds whose entires are rising), so comparing those 'sponsored
specialties" to our specialties, we still see too big of a difference
in the entries.
Maybe it's time to forego the wonderful get together, where everybody
enjoys a few hours at a park where everybody knows everybody. We all
belong to 3 or 4 clubs and so (like shelter dogs being transferred)
we're all counted 3 or 4 times for the club count. And the same
people do all the work for 3 or 4 clubs because that is the membership
of those 3 or 4 clubs.
I wish I knew the answer... But maybe (heresy) it's time to cut back
on the amount of regional clubs, and think harder about combining the
clubs to have sponsored rings at an AB show.
