Definitely an interesting article. I certainly see no major reason to
turn our Standard back in time because of anything in this article??
Every Standard has some restrictions that are difficult to deal with
for those not willing to abide by it...or love a dog with the fault.
I'm sure there are some that want white Boxers, white Dobermans,
white Collies, Corgis etc...WITH THE VERY SAME ARGUMENTS....but none
would come close to representing what we nor the general public
know or expect to represent those Breeds.
Seems to me rather than promoting and permeating the Breed with
ANY faults by making them more acceptable...with none being the
most desirable characteristics...it is best to work harder on
what IS the most desirable characteristics of the Breed.
Coats of course can be shown so they are not a problem with the
concern of increasing entries. I sure don't 'get' promoting
"special classes" for this specific fault....at OUR NATIONAL!!
ALL Breeds have specific requirements for coats and color.
Any way you want to discuss coats or whites - they are still a
"fault" and I know of no other Breed that makes a special
concession for a fault class within their Breed??
PARTICULARLY at a National level!
The author's concern seems to be to try to increase entries. That
issue is listed nowhere in the Statement of Purpose of the GSDCA!
What this Breed REALLY needs is better Public Relations and promotion
for the GSD Breed...NOT showing the world that our Standard matters
little and we pander to those who prefer to breed faults for the sake
of bigger entries.....sigh....
Why not let them separate as some white breeders keep asking... to
become ALL THEY CAN BE as a separate Breed rather than try to change
our Standard back in time .....? They deserve the opportunity!

Yes, definitely a good read, Ann. It put White and coated GSDs in
perspective, rationally and methodically. I don't think there any holes in
the article; I really hope people take the time to read it in its entirety.
