Tish makes a lot of good points. The most important think is reaching out
and procuring new members and then making new members into lasting , good
members.
Our club president, reaches out to people with German shepherds wherever he
sees them, esp at PetsMart. He admires there dog and gets them to club
meetings. We try to plan programs of interest to new people i.e.: the new
vaccination protocols, first aid for your dog, puppy testing. We try to
include new people onto committees. We ask them to help. We have social
meetings and get togethers where they can bring their dogs.
The backbone of a club is not money - it is members. If you have members
and they value the club, they will help raise money. It takes work and it
takes involvement! We are even slowly adding to the conformation ranks. I
teach a conformation class every year. This year one of my students is
showing himself another club member's puppy and is winning. HE pointed her
himself from the puppy class. ANd he gets tons of club support.
You have to set people up to have fun!
Yes, it is work! But it is worth it.
