A friend of mine emailed me this question and I'm hoping someone on the list
can respond:
This is a GSD question. Does anyone know anything about treating a dog who
continues to lick the top of his paw until he develops a sore? He just won't
give it up on the top of his back right paw. It's been more than a month. He
licks the sore which is about the size of a dime. There's no infection. She
keeps putting anti-infection cream on it and she's wrapped it in sterile
gauze and bandages. She has also sprayed it with bitter apple. It is not
infected - she made sure of that. She has also called her vet and left a
message. He gave it a name and said it was one of the hardest things for
vets to treat, because it's partly physical (it itches) and partly
psychological. Any help you can give would be most appreciated.
