Perry County man kills puppies, police say

Aaron Horst Shirk couldn't find a buyer for his three puppies, so he
decided to kill them, state police said.
One by one, Shirk tied a rope around each of the 3-month-old mixed-breed
pups and slammed them onto a concrete floor until they were dead, records
state.
Shirk, 27, of the 100 block of Green Park Road in Tyrone Twp., has been
charged with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
A dog Shirk owned had a litter of puppies in December, recorded state. He
had sold all but four of them, records state. But when it came time to get
rid of them, he couldn't find the fourth animal, records state. Court
records don't say what happened to the fourth puppy.
In February, one of Shirk's neighbors asked about the puppies, and police
said Shirk replied that he "had to take care of them" because nobody bought
them, records state. The neighbor called the state police.
State police said Shirk told them he tied the pups up and beat them against
the concrete floor, records state.
Shirk's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 21 before District
Judge Elizabeth Frownfelter.
