What you've described is what is wrong with co-ownerships. People can be
fickle, liars and crazy. KNOW YOUR CO-OWNER. I'm sure the AKC will help
you. I've heard quite a few horror stories in the last few months. One
ended happily with a dog back in her breeder/owner's name. Another
involved a newbie "sweet-talking" 3 different breeders into selling her
dogs. Not so great an ending there. Many more examples . . . Good luck
with your situation. As for the liability issue, you should ask Evan.

Hi List
here is the story as quick and simply as possibly
1 dog was placed as a puppy. pick of the litter. promise to try and show
dog. kept on as co owner
2. dog shown only 5 times earned 2 points.
3. finally sent letter to owner (we were friendly) that they were not
living up to the contract. I don't
showing only 5 times and earning 2 points in three yrs as complying
with the contract. I did expect
him to show at the local shows,.
4 sent letter to owner stating that they weren't living up to the
agreement and ask what the problem was,.
I had told then after I helped with the bills to finish a brother I
would help him.
5 got a phone call from wife asking if I would take the dog back. She
never wanted two big dogs ( they had gotten
a bitch from a breeder in Miami) also had two points. didn't want to
deal with fleas, ticks the dog was regulated
to the back yard. etc. bottom line I said YES got the dog back in
feb. and started showing him in April now has
7 points.
I asked via (2) letters for the papers back. no answer. sent them a
self addressed stamped envelope.
Contacted AKC and they are going to contact them. Since they are
still legally on the papers as owners and I'm
down as a co owner if something happens example he attacks a dog he
attacks a kid etc. are they liable for damages also. My handler stated he
would send them half of the bills also LOL what are the thoughts as long
as they are listed as owners.
