As I said, Cardigans are different...their rules regarding colour are different. What the Collie people call a sable merle is completely not acceptable in Cardigans........... Merle Collies and Shelties are frequently bred to tricolours, however, and obviously, in Collies anyway, sometimes to sables............OR, sables bred to tricolours can produce a sable merle, I'd think, if one dog had a merle factor...it is all very interesting, but probably not to most people on this list!
