Breeding Merle to anything but Tri causes fatal genes. Dead pups or serious deformities every time. Also, in corgis, tri colors can be one of two ways. Tri color with tan points, or tri color with brindle points. While it is safe to breed a merle to a tri with brindle points, it is not advisable to breed a merle to a brindle. If you breed a merle to a merle, you're actually kicked out of the CWCCA. That's how serious an offense it is. You CAN get Merles from a Tri to Brindle breeding, or even brindle x brindle. Rare, but it happens. Some friends of mine with Corgis bred their brindle girl to a brindle boy, and there was a possibility of blues. She whelped in early march. No blues, but two brindles and two blacks (that may change to brindle yet :D!) - Jackie In a message dated 3/29/2006 11:28:23 AM Central Standard Time, linnloch@xxxxxxxxxxx writes: This is again fascinating- what does happen when a merle Cardigan Corgi is bred to any other color other than a tri? And do you get just get tris and merles doing the approved color combination? Thanks, Dorothy ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2006.
