One of my GSD bitches had to have a splenectomy and the surgeons (this was
done at the University of Florida) went ahead and performed a gastropexy to
help prevent any gastric torsions that might arise due to there being empty
space in her abdomen with her spleen being done. She never had a problem
with bloat or torsion before or after surgery. She was 12 when the surgery
took place and lived to be 14, when I had to euthanize her because of
complications from degenerative myelopathy.
