My brother and his crew were shot at in the woods years ago over the spotted
owl... as the public
was told they could only survive in 'old forest' timber. Turns out they live
in the cities just fine.
I'm surprised huge Organizations like the Rodeos, Dog food companies, big
chain Pet Store, etc.
don't make more effort to help with this battle.
Most of us do educate....but on such a small level one on one with people, I'm
not sure it helps.
We've written letters, made calls, etc. and these bills just keep coming at us
....marching on.....

We are, of course, having just that discussion today. A lot of us feel
demoralized. I have always said that ARs are about 2-3 percent of the
populations. Animal owners? Well, almost 1/2 the homes in the Nation have a
dog, and then you start counting in all the other animal owners? WE are the
majority, but we have other priorities, we are divisive even among dog
breeders. They aren’t. They don’t care what animal you have, they don’t want
you to own it. Old smirky Pacelle says all that he/they care about is the good
care of animals. Baloney. They are vegans, and vegans don’t believe in ANY
animal use… not for food, not for companionship, not for entertainment, not for
research.
We have the numbers and could get the finances IF we could bind together.
That’s why NAIA is so important to me, too. It’s the only nation-wide
organization the speaks to all animal use. Protect the Harvest would like to
try, but they are “young.” Forrest Lucas has the money, but he’s not going to
do much unless he gets a lot of feedback…is my assumption. It may be one of
his pet projects, but not the only one.
Educate, educate.. others and yourself. If you read something and you wonder
why animal rights groups are pushing it so hard, ask. It will be answered.
Going after elephant bull hooks is not about that puny elephant guide. It’s
about not being able to stand next to an elephant. And to get donations.
Going after lead in bullets? Not the lead, but the hunters. (Science has
shown that the birds get more lead from other sources). There are more and
more instances like that.

I mean....how do we battle HSUS and Sea Word in our little corner of the

People have NO idea how much this is going to affect all animal use.
I have never given up the fight since I started, but this is making me do a bit
of reconsidering. I mean, if nobody cares about the future of animal use, why
are we, who care so much, bothering?

The number is a actually less that has been hyped. There was one really
disturbing one. The fatal accident with Dawn Brancheau should never have
happened because of Tillikum’s aggressive history. Other than that, there were
rare accidents.. I believe a trainer was bit once. These are huge animals.
For there to be so few means that the organization has become extremely safety
conscious (and yes, lots of it due to outside pressure).

From what I see, here in California, Sea World became the major target of
animal rights promoters. There were a number of disturbing accidents with the
whales. I think it was public pressure, and a chance for them to look good.
Besides, I am not even sure their breeding program was that successfull.
They will still have the whales to raise public interest, but will no longer
try to breed them. It is probably a big disappointment to the males, and the
females no longer have to claim a headache.

old ( famous movie line) what is the hidden message, was Sea World forced into
these changes? Why are they discontinuing their breeding program? I remember
stories ( unsure about the validity) about Killer Whales being abused and
trainers being injured... Again I don't remember the full story, very
interesting... Thanks Stormy Ed
