I'm not sure I understand the analysis below. Each judge had a different
number of members voting for him/her. Judge A only had 600 members voting
for him/her; Judge B had 627, while Judge C had 620 members voting for
him/her. One could argue, therefore, that Judge A had the least number of
members willing to cast a vote for him/her, and in a close race such as
depicted, deserved to be in third place. After all, Judges B and C received
only 5 or 6 fewer first place votes, but also received 10 or 15 more second
place votes.

Let's assume that Judges A and C had received the same number of total votes
as Judge B (627 votes), and that each one of the additional votes over and
above what they received in the example was a third place vote. Then, Judge
A would have had a total of 1227 points, Judge B would have 1225 and Judge C
would have 1222. Judge A would have been the highest scoring judge. For
some reason in the example below, 27 members were so much against Judge A
that they didn't even give him/her any vote at all (compared to Judge B).
The same is true if you give Judge A 20 more third place votes and compare
him/her to Judge C. In this case, Judge A would have a total of 1220 votes,
while Judge C would have 1215. Again, Judge A would have the highest total.

The weighted system is not perfect, but is probably as good as or better
than any alternative. I think a bigger problem is members who vote for
judges in disciplines they know very little about.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Why weighted ballot should not be used// 2nd try

Trying again, my mail must have gone through Peggy's computer <G>

Below is an example of why the weighted ballot should not be used>

Weighted ballot: 1=3 points, 2=2 points, 3=1 point.

Judge A Judge B Judge C

200 x 3= 600 194 x 3= 582 195 x 3= 585

200 x 2= 400 210 x 2= 420 215 x 2= 430

200 x 1= 200=1200 223 x 1= 223 =1225 200 x1=200=1215

Judge A was the choice of the membership since he/she got more number 1
votes but you will see that Judge B with less number one votes than Judges
A &

C would get intersex. Please note that even though Judge A got more
number

one votes he/she would end up doing bitches as a third place finish.
