well, she is not the only one that is getting depressed up here, it has been
raining regularly, and to add insult to you know what, it is also freezing
cold! We all bitch every year about this climate, where oh where is the

I've been thinking about this a lot. I hear you all saying the popular
answer is 'go down with the ship', or that's what I get from the people
who've spoken out.
This conversation started me thinking of Katrina. I don't blame anyone in
New Orleans who left their pets behind during Katrina. I know some people
left thinking they'd be right back. Growing up on the Texas coast, I've
been
in more than my share of hurricane evacuations, and we always left knowing
we'd be back in a day or so.
Most of the time the dog came with us, but then he was only one, not five,
or six, or ten, or twenty. Some of my neighbors left their dogs and their
cats, their livestock behind and no one thought anything of it.
I have to agree with Syd. If it came down to my life or my family members
vs
that of my dogs, people come first - always. It's not that I do not love,
no, adore my dogs, but ultimately I believe that human life is most sacred.
Because I've carefully prepared, the only example I can think of that might
leave me in the situation of walking away would be the house burning down.
I'm not going to die trying to save my dogs in that situation, but will do
what I feel is safe to do to keep the ones I hold so dear.
