Molly my love
The point is, if people can't get themselves and their dogs to Nationals, or
can't afford to get there, or if sites are not available or are too
expensive to rent, there will be no Nationals, anywhere.
Wayne
PS What do other National clubs do?

Some prefer to fly to Toronto (45 min from show site) but we always drive
and do it gladly, because that is where our National should be. It is
best
for our club, our breed and for ALL exhibitors from coast to coast. And
yes,
even for y'all.

But you have to admit Wayne, Canada is definitely different than the US.
The membership total is not even 1/4 of the PC in the US, probably 70% of
the
breeders and members live in Ontario, there are few in the east, a few more
in
the west but not enough to support the national. The country is larger
than
the US, and Kitchener facility maybe doesn't have a lot of extra amenities,
but doesn't have the amount of people that attend a US national, the amount
of performance events, or the entry. The two nationals of course are
similar, they are dog shows, but the schematics are very different. The
heaviest
part of population, other than the Montreal and Vancouver area, all lie
within 1 hour of Kitchener. Therein lies a good part of the problem.
There are a large number of regional clubs and a considerable amount of
workers spread all over the US. That does not exist in Canada, plus the
facilities to host the Canadian national are more limited. There are few
arenas
after Sept 1 who will allow their hockey shut down for a week, and allow
sod to
be brought inside. So I guess what I am ultimately saying, it is very
hard
to compare the two.
But regardless, you have made some good points....keep thinking on it my
friend!
Molly
