I also commend Donna for her post to the List and also to Pat for her reply.
Too many times we bring problems on ourselves. Although our breed is unique
and we, as exhibitors, are unique, " when in Rome do as the Romans do"! It
is possible to double handle your dog with subtle and non-disruptive
doubling. I was at the Jackson, MS shows Thursday and Friday and the
doubling was there but not overdone and successful. There was one warning
by the judge Thursday and no other actions were needed.
As an occasional judge, let me tell you that most double handlers are AWFUL.
They harm the exhibiting of their dog more than they help them. How can one
see a GSD gaiting properly when they are pulling on a leash trying to get to
their owner. This is not a natural gait for a GSD. More exhibitors need to
re-read the standard and go to a GSD judges seminar to re-educate themselves
as to what constitutes proper gait for a GSD. I have attended seminars
under 5 different presenters and never has anyone of the five advocated that
a GSD had to pull on the lead to gait properly.
I know I drifted off the subject but I don`t post often and am trying to put
all of my rants on this subject in one post. Thanks for reading. D.D.
