It all depends on the circumstances. First use integrity. Give yourself
and the owner of the bitch a little room to bend.
In 1999 I leased our Ch. Gotti daughter for $1,000 since I was moving and
this was good for both parties as we took many trips up and down the west
coast. Our Ch. bitch was OFA & EL plus she was a housedog with manners.
Since it
would be her first litter I guaranteed at least 2 live pups. If she only
had one, the owner of the Ch. male would get it and get to lease again if she
chooses. You have to know the owner of the sire and in this circumstances I
knew them very well and trusted her in their care.
She only had 2 live pups so they leased her again and had 5. I wanted to
make sure all were healthy and did not require the money up front. She sold
them all and I was paid, all went to great homes and everything was good. It
doesn't always happen that way.
I don't know if the fees are higher or not. We did get major point winners
and a Champion also a high scoring obedience dog. I was lucky to be included
as breeder of all the litters with the leesor. Again you have to negotiate
and ALWAYS have a contract no matter if its your sister or brother.
But I have BIG ADVICE....KNOW YOUR PEOPLE....ONLY LEASE A VERY SHOWABLE
BITCH THAT CAN OFFER THE MALE SOMETHING AS WELL....otherwise, you will waste
your
money. Breeding Champion males to Champion bitches doesn't guarantee
anything except a really good start.
