Maybe there are more entries in other breeds because they don't have such a
silly split between all breed and specialty...
There is a terribly elitist attitude that specialty wins are better than all
wins. I personally feel they are equal. 3 points is 3 points...I don't
care who points at my dog.
But then, I do not get upset when my dog loses either. There's no point.
It's a dog show...you lose more than you win. Seeing people get all worked
up in a lather and grumbling (or in some cases, shouting >.<) that "That
judge doesn't know what the hell they're looking at!" or calling an all
breed judge "blind" reeks more of jealousy (and poor sportsmanship) to me
than anything else.
I've had people seemingly TRY to make me BE upset because my dog lost to
another dog it shouldn't have. That's happened a couple of
times....literally two. And it's fine. I don't agree with the judges
decision. Doesn't make the judge stupid, doesn't make me mad. There is
always another dog show. Why is this such a hard concept for people? Why
must they make nasty comments under their breath?
Everybody loves a judge when their dog is put up, but it really seems to go
the other way when they lose! Can't people ever admit that sometimes their
dog is beaten by a BETTER dog (at least on that day)?
I've got my list of judges that I'll show to again, that I'll try again
with, but with a different type of dog, and judges that are on my
"absolutely not" list. That last list is still very short for me, and the
reason I will not show to a judge again is generally due to treatment of the
dogs while judging, or noticeable inconsistency.
