There is such a thing as age related issues, and bloat can be age related. If
my Liddy bloats, and she comes from a family of bloaters, I will put her down.
She is almost 7, if it happens now, it is age related in part, and she may or
may not be strong enough to take it. I would put her down.
Bertha was not quite 2 years, I had to see if she could be saved. She is fine.

torsioned by the time we got there. Also it had NOTHING to do with money.Â
 I loved both those dogs with all my heart and in my opinion it was just
not fair to put a 10-1/2 year old dog through that surgery. In both of
these cases I feel that the bloat/torsion had something to do with age.Â
Even when you are right on top of the situation like that it does not always
turn out good.

It's a tough call, I've been there and did the surgery on an old dog.
I'll
never do that operation on any dog again, no matter how old they are. It's
just too painful for them. I also would never freeze semen from a dog that
was diagnosed with cancer. I've been in that sitiation also. The Vet
asked
me just before I put him down whether I wanted his semen. It just about
broke my heart, quaked the foundations of my breeding program, to lose him.
He was my 1st National Futurity Victor and he was only 5 yrs. old.
Health in our breed is almost as important as temperament in my books.
