I remember years ago, my neighbor seeing my "very black and tan" GSD's .(  
That was back when I paid $200. for a show prospect from Ernie Loeb.  )
 
His comment was that he had purchased a rare " California Silver Back  " 
bitch. I went over to see her. 
 
I gotta say for the most part all GSD's have some qualities to me BUT that  
was the UGLIEST thing I ever saw. and he actually paid cash money for her. 
If  she were pure bred, she kept it well hidden.   Judi Bendt
