That was Glen Johnson. Not only did he train dogs to detect Gypsy Moth Eggs,
but he trained them to detect leaks in pipelines. They were used in Canada on
a new natural gas pipeline that had leaks. The dogs found leaks that the
instruments could not detect until the buried pipeline was exposed. They were
also used in New York City to find leaks in the electrical transmission lines
that were buried beneath the city streets. The dogs had to work along the
streets between two moving cars that were about 6' apart. The cars couldn't be
farther apart, otherwise someone would try to cut between them. They also had
to work during the daylight hours because of the dangers of working at night.
Glen was an incredible trainer where scent work was concerned.

I remember going to a Tracking seminar in Denver about 30 years ago.
I can't remember the mans name, but he was from Canada.
He had a GSD that could detect the Gypsy Moth Egg. This egg virtually has
no smell, but his dog could find them and was kept quite busy in the North
Eastern US.
