Calcium Dextrose, great stuff and one that the vet I used to work for would
try first before the oxytocin. Her statement was that unlike oxytocin which
causes the entire uterus to contract at once, calcium dextrose actually made
the uterus act like a tube of toothpaste squeezing from the top to the
cervix. Dextrose gave the bitch added energy. has to be given very sloly
as I remember by IV. However, I did finally ask once if there was a "poor
mans substitute". she looked at me and said, "think about it... calcium and
dextrose... what has calcium and alot of dextrose in it?" Vanilla ice
cream. its cold, the bitches tend to love it, gives them an energy boost,
and it did seem to help when we tried it.
Im not saying its a replacement, but if you cant find the stuff in
injectable, it is worth a try.
