If you want to volunteer at the Gonzales shelter, or where ever.... Go to
Petfinder and click on the Hurricane Katrina link. There is a link for people
wanting to volunteer. You do not need any special clearance or approval. They
are just trying to coordinate efforts.
The statements made yesterday on the list about needing to be 'deployed' or
have permission to enter do not apply outside of the city of New Orleans. If
you want to go on a boat to rescue animals, you will need special training and
clearances. But, that is not what is needed. What is needed is people at the
shelters to do paperwork, walk dogs, clean cages, etc.
