When they enter the show they don't know if it will be a major or not.
Personally it sounds like a waste of money, but it's their money and if they

want to show anyway then it's their business.

But once you know it's not a major do you still put the dog in and take the

points even though your dog doesn't need them. That was my question.

It's one thing to enter and hope it's a major, it even worse when it closes
a major and you drive there, groom, count noses and it doesn't hold, but NO,
I've never shown a dog who is singled out when it isn't a major. The odds of
winning the group (of course providing a major held in another breed),
unless you have just the "right" handler, just the "right" judge and all the
stars
are in alignment are slim to none and slim left town. (Judges do get
judging programs BTW, they DO read them, they DO know where the entries were
on any
given day and they DO, despite what you may have heard, recognize the top
dogs in each breed. Do you really think for instance, if you have a supported
entry of Shelties , say 60 w/ 8 specials and an entry of 4 GSDs w/no CHs,
that the GSD is going to go over the Sheltie that day? Not unless the stars
are
in alignment...and the group judge doesn't want another assignment.)

I think it is extremely poor sportsmanship to continue to single point a dog
who is singled out.
