hints from another list........ shared by Peggy Words of advice from fighting Ohio animal rights oriented bills: * In your representative's mind, a letter is worth 100 votes, an email is worth ten votes, a phone call is worth 1 vote (it takes more time and effort to write a letter, and your rep knows that for every person motivated enough to do it, there are statistically 99 who did not bother but feel the same way) * Reps who want a bill passed will lie to the committee and say there is no opposition. Therefore, you should not write only to your own rep, instead, write to them all. If you are a club member, a member of a rescue organization, or the like, explain the bill to the group and try to get a vote on it. If the vote goes against the bill, then say in your blanket letter to the reps that you represent a group of voters, and that it is likely that some member of the group is in that rep's territory. * If the rep you write to is a liberal, stress those ideals that are likely to appeal to a liberal, and if your rep is a conservative, aim your letter in that direction. There are arguements that can be used for each. MK ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2005.
