Shepherd Dog: a genetic history who was there at the time.

"Axel vd Deininghauserheide (1946) schH III FH DPH
by Immo v Hasenfang x Helma v Hildgardsheim.
suspected of involvement with VWD.
Dr Willis says much on Axel but he is what you asked for.

The research he did on past GSD's is proof that history
is importaint in dog breeding.

Were Hein and Axel or even Troll proven to be known carriers???

sorry but i get the digest so i have to copy and paste.

there is not a carrier test as there is in other breeds.

perhaps those dogs had low numbers as adults if they were tested at all.

the factor is measured in the blood. the factor goes up with age, heat cycles,
pregnancies and can be affected by vaccines from what i was told years ago.

the most accurate test would be to test a very young puppy and we know that no
one does not here and not in europe.

i don't think it's gone but i don't think it's seen often and dogs that are
affected don't react as bleeders like dobies (except if kate is sure her male
was not a hemophiliac and was sure he had vwd. could have had both.)

because it's not seen often and not as it is in other breeds i'll repeat that's
why no one tests. you wouldn't know if your dog was low unless there was an
issue.

i will bet my right pinky if every breeder on this list tests all of their dogs
under age 1, there are going to be low scores. low/borderline somewhere 69 to
73 and this is a guess on the range! we tested several and i don't remember the
range but we stopped because no one tests and with age the result is most
likely not accurate. however if you get a lower score on an adult that dog was
probably lower when it was younger. 69/73 should not show any issues in surgery
or in whelping for bitches. down to 30 or so you may see blood shot eyes easier
if playing rough and i'm just guessing at an example of how you may know.

this isn't like hemophilia where the dogs here are so so removed from canto's
daughters that the chance of passing it on is probably extremely rare, but vWD
is not sex linked and don't think it can't be in your lines. same breed, same
ancestors but not that more narrow path through canto.
