this is crossposted with permission. If you are planning on showing in Louisville, it is very important that you read this information...all of it! shared by Peggy Donna Herzig is the Vice President of the LKC. She is also an attorney, and strongly believes that the LKC is ethically required to let exhibitors know how the new law might affect them. There is a cadre of LKC members who believe the dog show is all-important, and that any talk of the ordinance will serve no purpose other than to scare people away. Amazingly, this small group (which includes the former LKC Show Secretary) believes that the dog show and the anti-pet ordinance are two separate issues! That said, those of us who recognize the threat of Meloche and the new anti-pet law have been doing our best to keep people informed and to help those who find themselves targeted by Meloche. We have a group of fundraisers for the lawsuit who also managed to convince the Cluster to increase security at the show this year. Doors will be locked at night, and security guards will be posted at all doors at all times. We will have people watching for unauthorized persons in any area where there are unattended dogs. Those planning on coming to Louisville should follow the suggestions below: **DO NOT stay in Louisville with your dogs. **DO NOT stop anywhere in Louisville when you have your dog with you until you get on Kentucky Exposition Center property (where LMAS has no jurisdiction). **DO NOT leave your dogs unattended unless they are in locked crates. **IF you must stay in Louisville, keep your dog on a 4 foot leash or in a crate when you are off Kentucky Exposition Center grounds. DO NOT use X-pens off the Kentucky Exposition Center grounds! Anyone who has any problems is encouraged to go to the education booth run by the LKC--that booth will be staffed by people who are familiar with the ordinance and who can help with any questions or concerns. Karen The following email has appeared on over a dozen lists that I'm on so I'm assuming it is OK to cross-post. I've been told by people familiar with the situation that it is an accurate account of the content of a meeting held by Dr. Giles Meloche of the Louisville Metro Animal Services. Please note very carefully the statement he made at the end of the meeting regarding the dogs at the Louisville dog show. It is being pointed out that Dr. Meloche has no authority to come onto the dog show site, but that doesn't mean that he has no authority in the city of Louisville, and it also says a great deal about the man's character and his thought processes. Unfortunately, the LKC is still saying that the dog show is on state owned property and Meloche has no jurisdiction there. Which proves nothing if one loses a dog inside the Louisville metro area AND this post certainly says everything about Meloche's attitude toward purebred showdogs ... He'd LOVE to catch one or two of them and do whatever he wanted just to prove that he could. I think this quote deserves to be spread far and wide. ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2007.
