Mine are taught from puppyhood (and one was a year & a half when he came and had to learn the rules) not to eat small creatures....they can't resist chasing squirrels up trees, but if they were to ever catch anything and I told them to "leave it", they would. I have cats and they are part of the pack to my dogs. In fact,I have one cat that insists on sharing my dogs' breakfasts with them! The dogs tolerate this, until they think he is eating too much, and will then take their noses and gently push him away ! On the other side,I have a rescue dog here whose sole mission is "search & destroy"...I have NEVER seen a dog with so much prey drive! It's scary! Other than this one foible, she is sweet as can be.
