For those who don't receive Dog News...one of the columns this week
was written by Jeffrey Helsdon, President of the Doberman Club and a
member of the Seattle Kennel Club. The column announced the formation
of "Friends in Dog Ownership, or FIDO," an organization formed under IRS
Code 527. FICO was formed to unite dog fanciers into a national,
political action committee to address the attacks with which we are
faced and to provide a mechanizm to finance both challenges to these
political efforts, as well as to advance our own positive, dog-friendly
agenda throughout the United States.
Patti Strand, AKC Director and President of the National Animal
Interest Alliance, had formed the PAC (political action committee) under
a different name some time ago, with the foresight that it will become
necessary to breathe life into it at an appropriate time when some of us
are able to devote the time to making it live.
That time is now.
FIDO is in the first stages of its existence. It is necessary to
finance it. There will be several steps in the process of attempting to
create a permanent financing mechanism for FIDO, but first, it needs
seed money.
FIDO is attempting to obtain the seed money by selling bumper
stickers. Delivery of the first bumper stickers is expected in about 3
weeks.
FIDO is attempting to turn the tide in a permanent way. Please do
your part...if everyone helps, FIDO cannot fail.
