I also feed twice a day for the same reason someone else mentioned. Too much
food to cram into the stomach at once. I use crock type bowls, they don't
slide around and are sturdy and easy to wash. I wash them by hand with soap
and hot water. The puppies eat separately from the adults, one of my bitches
prefers to eat in her crate, the others on a mat inside the dog room. I
never feed outside as it attracts flies and ants.

Our dogs are fed twice a day. We used to feed the dals only once, but many
years ago, my mom decided that the dogs really enjoyed eating and should eat
twice daily - also easier to manage weight, etc.. With the GSDs and bloat, I
figure that two smaller meals are better than one big one...
Since I feed raw, I do feed outside on the lawn during the summer months
when the weather is good - food is put in stainless steal bowls (unless it
is a neck or something big). During the winter or other lousy weather, they
eat in the garage on raised platforms.
Dishes get handwashed after every meal and washed in the dishwasher a couple
of times a week.
Dogs have free access to water.
