Laurie, I didn't say you used "goat" in your post, *I'm* the one who used
"goat" and take full responsibility for using it.

This term has been used on the List in the past, and I was using it
"tongue-in-cheek." (As it has been used in the past.) It was simply a
facetious remark and not meant to offend.

The following is not directed at you, Laurie, but at the List in general...

I've just got one last thing to say about dog show politics... Practically
everything in this world is affected by and ruled by politics. I've found
almost every sport in which I've participated to be highly political.

One just has to do the best one can and stay honest. And the cream *will*
rise to the top. Due to extenuating circumstances, sometimes the cream may
take a little longer to rise than under ideal conditions, but it will rise.
Excellence is, and always will be, recognized sooner than later.

IMO, Linda Selmon is right on when she says, "... a good dog will win. Just
do your home work and condition your dogs."

Please don't discount dogs who are handled by Jimmy, Kent, Leslie, or Lenny
and win *not* because of politics, but because they ARE "darn nice dogs."

I wasn't "born yesterday," but I do know these top handlers often get great
dogs because they are the best in their chosen profession.

Not all dogs taken in by Jimmy, Kent, et al. are "proverbial goats." Just a
few. <grin>

I show my dogs in both rings. I have at home two animals that won their
classes at the GSDCA national specialty AND have all-breed Group I's. Now -
these are GSDCA national class wins and all-breed Group wins handled by
Ariel - NOT Jimmy or Kent or Leslie or Lenny. So - we didn't win because of
handler political connections - we won because these are darn nice dogs.
There are politics in both rings and good and bad judges in both rings.
But - you still can win with nice dogs both rings.

I see good dogs in both rings - and I find that I can sort them out in a big
or small ring. The truly correct GSD can handle a big or small ring and
look good doing it.

IMO - the politics in the all-breed ring - at least at the breed level - are
not as bad as the politics and the shenanigans I see going on in our
specialty rings.
