[ SHOWGSD-L ] ear hematoma

I have had/seen a few over the years and from my experience with them, whether
they lance it or not it will cauliflower or wrinkle up to some degree and will
not stand up good again. They often will either drain or go down on their own,
or you can have it lanced....but either way I have never seen one end up a
normal erect ear again. (and $600 seems like a ridiculously high number to pay
to lance or aspirate it unless he is doing some kind of plastic surgery!)

This question is from a friend of ours..........
His seven year old German Shepherd bitch developed a hematoma
in the upper half of the ear.
One can feel thickening of the cartilage, where the ear bends over......
like the cartilage has 'cracked' or has been broken.......
The swelling is still present after six weeks.........
And the ear tips over like a collie's.
His Vet wants to charge him $600.00 to lance it.........
we proposed that the Vet just aspirate it........
The Vet said that would cause a "cauliflower ear".
Has anybody had any experience with this type of situation?
Thank you for any suggestions or ideas...
Or if you will share any of your experiences?
