Yes, there are many gorgeous dogs out there.? But, presence or the "IT" factor
is something different.? You just know it when you see it ot feel it.
When I first started with GSD's, I was doing obedience.? I entered my dog in a
local specialty.? I didn't have a show dog at the time and was watching the
judging while waiting for my obedience class.??As I was wandering around, I saw
a dog that just drew me to him.? He was just hanging out with his owner.??I
just had to meet this dog.? I went up to him and said Hi and petted him.? I
asked the owner his name and she said it was BOSS.??Seemed like a good name to
me, as he looked calm and confident in himself.? I didn't get to see him show
as?my class came up.? I had no idea who this dog was or even who the owner
was.? But, I wanted to see this dog again.? I found out who he was at
that?years National.??I only got to see him show once, but he was everything I
expected.? He had the?"IT" factor.? There is something there that just draws
you in.?

People are posting the names of dogs that took their breath
away..........and I will agree with many of them that these dogs were
beautiful......
top of the list, of course, has to be Scoop... and Leroy, Ciera, and
others.. .......but I was talking about presence (an intangible) -- which
has nothing to do with structure, movement, or anything else. Presence is
the ability to project a sense of ease and self-assurance...some pretty bad
riders, for example, still have great presence on a horse.
For me it's a look of arrogance, too...not simply beauty, but a "I know
you came to see ME, because there's nothing else here as good"
attitude.........sort of a "looking down your nose" thing.........
and Zeek had it in spades.
Lots of dogs have presence, I guess...but I've never seen a dog who had
it like Zeek did. That's just me. I've seen dogs whose movement
blew me away, dogs working that made me cry........but for just standing
there, oozing "something" that made it almost impossible to
look anywhere else...........that was Zeek.
Nothing wrong with any other dogs named in this discussion...........I
love or have loved a lot of them (Ciera, Leroy, and of course, Scoop, etc.)
but Zeke just had to stand there............and whew......the goosebumps
erupted and a little frisson ran up my spine and down again...
Snake was beautiful.........I went on and on about him to anyone who would
listen...........but Zeek had the most presence of any Shepherd I personally
have ever seen.
