I don't know about the toxicity but I know my grand puppy, a miniature
schnauzer owned by my daughter, ate an acorn.  It got lodged somewhere in
his intestines and he needed emergency surgery.  He was close to death.  A
lot of intestine had to be removed because it become infected or gangrene.

on that note, what about pecans?  we have several large trees at the farm.
i haven't noticed the dogs bothering with them yet, but they are just
starting to fall and i would like to be sure i don't have to worry if they
get into them...
