Generally my boy lies quietly in the back seat of the car and loves to ride. He's very well mannered. EXCEPT for the day we had a severe thunderstorm and I was on a freeway and had him in the back seat and with a loud clap of thunder, he decided he would ride in the front with me! No amount of heavy persuasion would convince him otherwise and over he came. I drove to my destination of about 5 miles from that point with one hand on his collar and one on the steering wheel. He was fine as long as he was in the front. I could not get off the hiway because of heavy traffic in the downpour. I'm just glad he didn't decide to sit in my lap! I will never take him again in a storm and I'm not sure if he had been in a harness if that would even have stopped him. And how do you keep a dog from getting tangled up in their harness straps tethered to the seatbelt when the dog decides to get up and turn around? I only have a sedan and can't use a crate so I'd have to use a seat belt. Tried putting something between the back and front but didn't work. Guess it would have to be bars.
