[ SHOWGSD-L ] deadly drug combination

My very best friend and co-breeder lost her 6 year old German Shepherd  
Katy this week due to a deadly drug combination prescribed by her vet. She had  
been using her for many years and until now highly regarded her. Katy was  
playing with her other GS in the yard when she yelped. Janice went out to 
find  Katy holding her rear leg up. Diagnosis at the vet..torn miniscus and 
cruitiate  lig. needing surgery. Had the surgery done ($2000) and brought her 
home the next  day. She was put on Previcol (Merck) and a pain patch. 
She had been put on prednisone the week before for a skin condition. She  
wouldn't eat so after 4 days they removed the pain patch ( which had nothing 
to  do with the problem). Still wouldn't eat  began throwing up. Went back 
to  the vet on Saturday to find out what was wrong  everything  
fine????????????????? Katy died later that night. Janice had an autopsy. She  
went to a 
different vet for the autopsy. When she told him what she was on he  went 
right to the stomach and intestine to find a hole there eaten away by the  
combination of prednisone and previcol. They should NEVER be given together. 
Vet 
 admitted it later. Said she missed it.
Previcol should never be given with any antinflamatory.  Katy died for  
nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
