Oak and Carrie, what a cool story! Thanks for sharing. I've never seen nor
heard a Coyote in the wild. The only opinion that I have about them is that
they were here first and we are encroaching on their territory. I don't
particularly care for the skunks that come in the yard and spray the dogs, but
I'm not about to kill them. I know most wild critters carry diseases, but then
so do we.

We live VERY rural. Carrie and I enjoy listening to the Coyotes sing. They
come right up to the kennels sometimes but not often. Our girls being in
heat has never tempted the coyotes to come into our yard, Of course we have
perhaps more GSDs than is in the average Coyote pack so they maybe feel a
bit intimidated. That's too bad someone has to even contemplate killing them
to protect their dogs. Glad we are not in that situation as I find them to
be truly beautiful. Several years ago I was hunting Elk not far from the
house and had a pack of Coyotes approach me. They were hunting too and even
though I was decked out in bright orange and literally sitting in the middle
of the road they walked right up to me. Wind was directly in my face and I
froze so they just didn't see me. One thought he did and was a bit braver
and so came within 6 feet. Try as I might I just couldn't keep from blinking
and he was staring right at me trying to figure what I was when I did. I
think he must have jumped 6 feet straight up and came down doing mach 3 in
the other direction. I felt bad disrupting their hunt as they were obviously
on to something but that is the closest I have ever been to a Coyote and he
was just gorgeous. Great ears and a top line like you wouldn't believe.
In close to 30 years living way out here we have never had the coyotes
tempted to attack the GSDs, and the kids pack up themselves whenever the
coyotes are near and answer the Coyotes singing with their own.
Wish you all could see them as we have had the oportunity to. They are
really a most engaging wild dog. Very simular to the GSDs.
