I am extremley offended, i am not UGLY. I repeat I am not UGLY. Fat, out of
shape and well fed(unlike Ken Tank). I will no longer talk to you, don't go on
any trips with me, no longer try to tell the Airlines that i am not what i look
like. It won't work. And BTW i will not help you with anything, no matter how
much you beg.

Webster's Dictionary defines the VERB form of the word "judge" as follows: to
form an authoritative opinion, to determine or pronounce after inquiry and
deliberation, to form an estimate,conclusion or evaluation about
something....what strikes me as odd with this definition is that Mr. Webster
(or Ms. Webster) failed to use either of these two words....Impartial and
Unbiased. My name is Edwin Hill, and I am an AKC German Shepherd Dog
conformation Judge.The words impartial and unbiased stay with me in the center
of the ring AT ALL TIMES. I am an impartial evaluator, I have no vested
interest in the out-come. When I accept the responsibility of a judging
assignment it makes no difference to me whether its the national,a Futurity, an
all breed show or a match down the street between dogs that sorta look like
German Shepherd Dogs, my responsibility is the same. My job is to evaluate
(judge) each dog's conformation, gait and temperament based on my honest ( but
subjective)
interpretation of the breed standard...no more....no less...Yes I am aware of
the fact that I have subjective biases ( I love Bi's) that can and sometimes
does play a role in my overall evaluation. When I accept an assignment it does
not matter who shows under me. When standing in "square center" I have no
friends and I have no enemies. I view handlers like "wine stewards"...they
bring the wine, I taste it...the best wine (dog) wins. I don't care if the
handler is new, old, black, white,PRETTY, ugly (Basu), gay, straight, my
ex-wife or what ever. I'll put up the same handler in every single class if he
or she brings me the best dog. Will the crowd influence my decision?...WHAT
CROWD?...Some judges claim not to recognize the dogs they judge, well I
recognize most of the dogs in my ring, perhaps I'm just different, but I don't
care if the dog is Grand Victor or he spooked at the last show he entered...I
am judging the dog on what he does today..end of that story. As an
honest judge it will not matter to me what the judge did at the show the day
before or the day after my show....why would it?. If I am asked politely after
the show why I placed a dog where I did, I will explain it...and if I don't
remember the novice dog that went 4th...I will be honest and admit I don't
remember (I'm 52 years old). Folks will be upset with my judging...I have never
been to a show when some one was not upset, no matter who the judge was...it
comes with the territory, some one mentioned a hot kitchen the other
day,folks... I was born in a hot kitchen. As an honest judge I will most likely
never be perfect, but I will always strive to improve. But I will never be
influenced by anything other than the animal with FOUR legs in the
ring..."list brags" Review Ads, e-mails, crowd noise, pretty women...nothing
is going to take me away from the responsibility that I have to ALL the
exhibitors who decided to spend what ever money they spent to get my evaluation
of their dog...now lets see who gets offended this time...Edwin B. Hill...aka
