Have my 4th grader get into her bathing suit & into the tub with the
dog, to help scrub & rinse the far side (saves my back a bit) and calm
the dog so I'm not sitting on the toilet lid with 1 leg up on the tub
edge blocking an escape!

Related story: My daughter's class had to do a "procedural writing"
assignment. They had to think of an activity that could be
demonstrated, write up the procedure in a clear fashion, including
necessary ingredients/equipment (it had to have at least 10 steps), then
demonstrate it to the class. Kate decided to do "washing a dog", and
being an enthusiastic perfectionist it had to be a *real* dog, not a
pretend demo in class on a stuffed dog. (Of course, this meant that she
had to develop a procedure outside the procedure: find a friend with a
video camera, arrange a "playdate", learn how the camera worked, learn
what the output would be and whether the teacher would be able to play
it in class, make her script waterproof, decide on a filming strategy so
that it wasn't a 60-min film, etc.)

So, a week ago, Adrianne's mom brought Adrianne and the camera over
and reviewed with them how to work it; Adrianne filmed while Kate
gathered towels and supplies; Indi was brushed (in a relatively clean
and uncluttered looking corner of the living room) ["hey! what's this!
Mom usually brushes me! and what's that other girl doing?"]; and then
the 3 of them disappeared into the bathroom. One hour later I had a
clean sweet smelling GSD and 2 damp kids and a really cute video of the
whole thing, with no aching back or dishpan hands. However, Kate has
decided that washing a dog is Too Much Hard Work, and she never wants to
do that again!!

Cheers,
  Leslie
