Everyone is looking for that "one thing" that is a cure all regarding dog
food. From raw chicken, raw meat, Barf diets, to the Solid Gold type foods
etc.
I have a different take on this and want to share.
Before you do anything make sure you know what you are doing......caloric
intake for all these type foods, potential problems with raw meats and yes
there
are some potential problems. I own a Chemical company and about 3% of our
sales is in Poultry plants where we have the technology of disinfecting
process
wash water used to wash the chickens. I can tell you I would consume cooked
chicken but there are some potential issues there that I would stay away from
raw chicken. So as far as I am concerned the risk out way the rewards in
reference to feeding raw chicken.
In addition much of what we are trying to fix or improve upon is genetic. A
close coated dog can be fed all the chicken, meat, etc. but guess what he is
still going to be a close coated dog....maybe a fat one but still close
coated.
My recommendation is to feed a high quality food, I myself feed Proplan and
have for years. These dog food companies don't all buy the same quality of
ingredients so they are not equal. And for the most part the more expensive
foods have higher quality raw materials .I came originally from Field Trial
dogs
where we work the hell out these animals. Talk to some of these professional
handlers and see there thoughts on top foods.
In a nutshell I believe in feeding the highest quality food and supplement
with just a little cooked cheap ground meat, wild game, etc....
