[ SHOWGSD-L ] changing the name of a registered dog...

Well, OK...we know you are now allowed to change the name of a registered
dog. Most people I know thought the breeder's permission was required. No
longer is this the case.
Also, you as the owner don't have to inquire about it...the AKC is now
SOLICITING name changes on newly registered dogs (thru transfers, at
least)...for a fee, of course! They are so desperate for money they're
apparently throwing breeders and kennel names to the wind.....
See below a letter from the AKC to a friend who's
recently registered a new puppy. The letter is self explanatory.

Dog Name: Morgansonne Fiona Dar-Lu
Transfer Date: 12/26/2008
We know that your dog is very important to you and so is the name of your
dog. The American Kennel Club now offers you the chance to change your dog's
name even after it has been transferred into your name.
You can download a copy of the Dog Name Change Authorization form here
http://www.akc.org/pdfs/ADCG01.pdf. Simply complete the form and submit it
to us with the required fee. Forms can be faxed to (919) 816-4261 or
submitted by mail to:
