Hey Syd:  I used to keep a journal for my puppies.  (I was even writing 
back then, LOL).  I'd write in it every day about the mother and the 
pups progress.  I always knew which pup was which.  Nothing to do with 
intellience at all.........just observation, I guess.  Best,  Barbara
