I have seen dogs put on the conveyors several times. Policy or not, it
happens. I think the problem is most likely the lack of training the airline
workers get pertaining to handling live animals. As with so many entry-level
or lower paying jobs, baggage carriers are often high turnover positions or
even from temporary employment agencies. Jobs that have high turnover are
usually deprived of quality training.
When I fly with animals I stay as close to them as possible through the
screening process and try my best to nicely repeat myself to the agents that
these dogs need to be handled with care and that I need to be notified
immediately of any problem or question regarding them. Like Patty said, some
airline bring you a card that verifies your dog is onboard. If they don't just
tell your flight attendant to check before the plane leaves. They will always
check for you.

I dont know about that...we usually use United and American.....we've have
always watched the dogs being loaded and the do go up the conveyor belt...
The one thing I do like that they do...the flight attendend gives you the
card that your dog is onboard...
