Well...I guess it comes down to the point of why do people advertise; usually
you advertise to sell something or promote something. The people who advertise
in the Review are most often promoting their stud dogs, or show wins or
kennel. Performance people often are not breeders and do not promote their
dogs at stud or have much reason to advertise except to brag on a title. A
Review ad is a lot of money to pay for a brag. If you check out some working
dog magazines you see more ads promoting a dog's working skills, but the Review
is not that venue. The Quarterly had more of that back in the day, not so sure
about it now as I have not seen a Quarterly in a long time. Oh, forgot about
Front and Finish, OK, they are performance oriented...but it is all breeds. I
just do not think that GSD performance folks are into advertising as it is
paying out a lot of money for little benefit except to see your dog in a

I looked through an old German Shepherd Quarterly last night . There were two
ads for performance dogs. One was a photo showing a dog that had just
completed its title. The other was a two page spread from a kennel in CA,
showing its Ch./UTD dog jumping over the high jump with the dumbbell in its
mouth and following a track. The other page showed a major pointed dog herding
sheep and going BOB. The ad listed all of the dogs in the kennel, four of
which had performance titles.
When I first started in GSD's I did obedience and herding and discontinued my
PC membership at one point because I didn't see what a performance person got
for being a member. There were no obedience stats or rankings and the list of
dogs earning titles had been discontinued. That was the only opportunity for
my performance dogs to ever be in the Review, since I couldn't afford an ad.
